Boijmans – Map

1/ |

A new map for the quite complicated building of the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. The many differences in height and shortcuts make it easy to get confused in the beautiful but large museum. To make it easier for visitors, even the two public entrances of the building have been renamed. This map is free to all visitors and is complementary to the wayfinding system by Mijksenaar and the iconic three-line-design by Thonik.

Boijmans – The collection as a time machine

1/ |

The collection of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen has been rearranged, in order to let the visitor see it with new eyes. The campaign brought the unique mix of artworks in its focus: ’The museum with Rothko and Rembrandt and Judd and Gispen and …’ and so on.

Boijmans – Fence

1/ |

The Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam, by architects MVRDV, will always be accessible to the public, but still the site had to be fenced off during construction. The eyes in the fence look at the visitor and the visitor can look back in and see the progress. The iconic lines that are used by the museum are interpreted in a new way, the movement within the lines is enhanced by the visitors’ own movement.

Boijmans – Change the System

1/ |

An exhibition about ‘groundbreaking contemporary design and a manifest for a viable world’, as the museum describes it. Starting point for the design was the endless animation of the word ‘change’, that can be viewed on boijmans.nl. From this animation, stylised steps were distilled for printed matter to, demonstrate change.

LKSVDD architecten

1/ |

The visual identity of these architects needed to be freshened up, ten years after thonik created the original design. The new identity plays with the long name: the division between the abbreviation and the word ‘architecten’ is defined by the contents and the use or the grid of the paper it is put onto.

Leipziger Hörspielsommer 2016

1/ |

Every summer, a park in Leipzig is hosting a ten-day radio drama festival, the biggest of its kind in Germany. This year again, I worked on posters, flyers and other printed matter to support this fantastic initiative. I have been connected with this project since 2009.

Wayfinding Westbad

1/ |

To guide visitors through the venue „Westbad“ in Leipzig, an iconic house that was originally built as a swim center in 1928, I have been working on the wayfinding system. Special icons were made and the typography was carefully selected to match the remaining original lettering. Having everything painted instead of stuck onto the walls was another way of keeping close to the house’s historic roots.

The building (and the wayfinding system) can also be visited in Google Street View.

Argument. A Game About Addiction.

1/ |

This role-game was made to help school children discuss addictions from different points of view, to make them understand the complexity and to have them talk freely. The game aims to put every player in different situations, their roles and properties are different every time they play. A very important and intelligent project that I worked on with much joy.
In addition to the design, I worked on the packaging and partly produced the game in-house.

Stadtradeln Leipzig

Still a necessity in Germany: getting people to (understand and) use bicyles. This campaign aimes to do just that, the team that rides the most everyday-kilometres even gets a prize. Most happy to help with this project!

An invitation for one of the most beautiful wedding I have ever seen, which was held on top of a hill in beautiful Franconia. Something that was almost completely made by hand, for a change. All invitations were completed with some gold paint by hand, after printing.

Designers’ Open 2012

1/ |

The location chosen for this years’ Designers’ Open festival became to be the guiding line for the design we did: using lines and bright colors that become start, goal or sidelines in sport, a simple yet vivid and very recognisable identity was created. This system was used throughout all products created: from posters and flyers to guiding system during the festival.

Designers’ Open 2011

1/ |

The new identity for Designers’ Open is based on a collection of forms, structures and materials, things that a designer looks at, runs his hand over, and enjoys to be inspired by. With only a few posters that could be put up normally and turned upside down, in addition to one text poster, we created a wide variety of shapes and combinations on the streets and in all (printed) media. To guide the visitors to the slightly hard-to-find venue, all were given a yellow plastic bag, showing arriving visitors where to go by the ones that already had left.

Leipzig South Cemetry

1/ |

The Leipzig South Cemetry is one of the biggest cemetries form the romantic age, well-designed to looke like a work of nature, rather than a work of man. Over the years this cemetry has be reclaimed by nature, making it hard for a visitor to find and see impressive tombstones of famous people. This map offers visitors several routes that focus on artits, scientists or victims of war.
This project was initially a school assignment, but it might be published in the future.

Dreams of a Better Life

1/ |

A catalogue for a charitative photo-exhibition by students from the HGB, ment to support the Leipzig AIDS Fund. Reaching for the stars and daydreaming about a better world was the main theme in the exhibition and in the catalogue: we supplied every photo with its own zodiac sign.
